Speldhurst
is situated in a most attractive part of the country which
is fortunately protected by The Metropolitan Green Belt and
is further in an Area of Outstanding Beauty and a Special
Landscape Area, all of which assist in restricting development
and maintaining the natural rural beauty and atmosphere.
There
is a selection of walks in the surrounding countryside using
the many established public footpaths which historically were
the principal connecting routes for local inhabitants. The
footpaths are maintained by a local volunteer group in conjunction
with Kent County Council, and dog owners will be pleased to
know that where thought necessary a dog door has been installed
beside most stiles
The
walks chosen below include a cross section of woodland and
open countryside, and are typical of the area and a great
joy to use at all times of the year. Springtime is particularly
beautiful in the wooded parts with sunlight filtering through
the new leaves and in many areas there are masses of bluebells.
Wildlife is plentiful, both fauna and flora, and we have our
fair share of birds, badgers, foxes, rabbits, squirrels and
deer to contend with.
